Random Music Moment

I'm bored. Work is so sllllooooooow. Even knowing that I'm leaving at noon isn't helping it go by any faster (mostly because I'm not looking forward to driving to Salt Lake in potentially bad weather, so leaving early is no fun). So to temper my boredom, I give you the next 20 songs that come up on shuffle.
  1. "All the Way Down" by Glen Hansard, Once
  2. "If I Didn't Know Better" by the Civil Wars, Live at Eddie's Attic
  3. "Mind Eraser" by the Black Keys, El Camino
  4. "Paranoia in B Major" by the Avett Brothers, Emotionalism
  5. "When You Got a Good Thing" by Lady Antebellum, Need You Now
  6. "Bad Romance" by Lady GaGa, The Fame Monster
  7. "Funnyman" by KT Tunstall, Drastic Fantastic
  8. "Round and Round" by Imagine Dragons, Continued Silence EP
  9. "Garbage Truck" by Sex Bob-omb, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
  10. "Houdini" by Foster the People, Torches
  11. "I've Got This Friend" by the Civil Wars, Barton Hollow
  12. "Closer" by Ne-Yo, Year of the Gentleman
  13. "Where Are You Now" by Mumford & Sons, Babel
  14. "Dust Bowl Dance" by Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More
  15. "Kick Drum Heart" by the Avett Brothers, I And Love And You
  16. "Fairytale" by Sara Bareilles, Little Voice
  17. "Fired" by Ben Folds, Rockin' the Suburbs
  18. "Whispers in the Dark" by Mumford & Sons, Babel
  19. "One Flight Down" by Norah Jones, Come Away With Me
  20. "Lovelier Than You" by B.o.B, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray
And . . . there you go. If you read this pointless post, kudos to you.

(On a separate note, I get married in 11 days! It's coming so fast, and I still can't believe that I'm actually going to be married. It's so weird. But I'm so freaking excited.)

Random Music Moment

And there you have it. A glimpse into my everyday musical life.

Not that weird, right?

Day Twenty-Four: Weird things you do when you're alone.

I don't know that I do a lot of weird things when I'm alone. The main thing I can think of is that sometimes I talk to myself, but I don't do it terribly often. Usually when something is really weighing on my mind and I need to work through things out loud in order to make sense of them.

I do have a tendency to sing really loud when I'm alone. I mean, I do that sometimes when people are around too, but I'm more likely to do it when I'm alone. I'll try to hit higher notes than I should, or I'll sing in a goofy voice. That's part of why driving alone in my car is fun sometimes. That's where I do my best singing, I think. That's also where I stretch my range because I'm not afraid of what anyone will think of me as I try to hit higher notes than I'm used to.

One more thing I do when I'm alone is daydream. Sort of. I'll go through fictional scenarios in my head and figure out how I would react to them if they happened in real life. I'll come up with complete conversations with whoever it is I'm interacting with in my head. Yeah, that's probably a little weird, and nothing ever works out the way I imagine it. None of the scenarios I come up with ever come to fruition. Which is probably a good thing.

The Shuffle Test

Day Twelve: Put your iPod on shuffle and post the first 10 songs that play.

This could get interesting. I have a lot of really random stuff on my iPod. Here goes nothin'.
  1. "Ritual Dance" by Kaki King, August Rush soundtrack (Told you I had random crap on there.)
  2. "The Medallion Calls" by Klaus Badelt, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl soundtrack (I'm gonna start skipping songs if I get a bunch of instrumental.)
  3. "Down" (feat. Lil Wayne) by Jay Sean (I always skip this song. I don't even know why I still have it.)
  4. "The Dungeon" by Danny Elfman, Alice in Wonderland soundtrack
  5. "Every Day," Les Miserables soundtrack
  6. "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Steam, Remember the Titans soundtrack (Holy soundtracks, Batman.)
  7. "Long Tall Sally" by the Beatles, Past Masters Volume 1 (Gotta have a Beatles song.)
  8. "A Moment With Me" by Harry Connick, Jr., Come By Me
  9. "Two Worlds" by Phil Collins and Mark Mancina, Tarzan soundtrack
  10. "The Violet Hour" by the Civil Wars, Barton Hollow
I will freely admit that I skipped a couple of songs. But that was because I kept getting songs from the same album. Thank you, shuffle, for not being as random as usual when I really want you to be.

Being Single in Provo

So I was trying to think about what I could do to make my blog more interesting, or at the very least to give me something to write about on a fairly regular basis. I wanted something that is prevalent in my life right now, since that would give me the most material to draw from. So what can a single, 20-something Mormon girl write about? Well, that's easy.

Dating.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not going to start writing about what guys need to do to date better or be more willing to go on dates or what I want to see in a significant other. This isn't going to be some advice column. That's boring. But I feel like since I am single and Mormon and living in Provo, the mecca of Mormon singles, I might as well write about life here. I can't guarantee that I won't rant and rave about why guys suck. (Because they do. No offense, guys.) But I'm hoping to have some funny stories and reveal a bit about myself and why I suck at the dating game. (I just do. Don't worry; you'll see.)

I will definitely continue blogging about sports and all those other random things I blog about. I might start book/movie/music reviews. I want to start up my short fiction again. And who knows what else could show up? This is my blog, and as such, it should be about my life and my interests.

I have a glut of ideas for dating posts, so hopefully those will start showing up soon. And hopefully you won't judge me too harshly for writing what I think. Because I have no idea where this random idea is going to end up.

Music Break 2011

I wrote this post about a year and a half ago that I stumbled upon recently, and I figure that enough time has elapsed for me to do another one. I think it's kind of fun to see what music I'm really enjoying at the moment. So, in no particular order, here are twenty of my current most favorite songs.
  1. "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles, Little Voice (This song is AMAZING. I have to train my voice so I can hit the ridiculously awesome note at the end of the bridge. It gives me chills.)
  2. "Black Sheep" by Metric, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (I wrote about this song here, and there's a video. Go listen.)
  3. "Neverland - Piano Variation in Blue" by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Finding Neverland (This soundtrack is beautiful. Gorgeous. Lovely. Incredible. My heart simply responds to it, and I don't have an adequate adjective in my vocabulary to describe it.)
  4. "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, Only by the Night
  5. "Rocketeer" by Far East Movement ft. Ryan Tedder, Free Wired (Ryan Tedder's voice is simply awesome. I love him.)
  6. "Say (All I Need)" by OneRepublic, Dreaming Out Loud (Again, Ryan Tedder. Love love love.)
  7. "Come Home" by OneRepublic and Sara Bareilles (Ryan Tedder + Sara Bareilles = Magic. I can play this one on the piano, and I seriously need to find a man who can sing it with me, because the duet is brilliant.)
  8. "Coalwood" by Mark Isham, October Sky (This is another song that simply speaks to me. I've loved it since I first watched the movie when I was probably 11 or 12.)
  9. "Falling Slowly" by the Swell Season, Once (This whole soundtrack is fantastic, as is the movie.)
  10. "Forget You" by Cee Lo Green, The Lady Killer (This is a good sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs song.)
  11. "Grenade" by Bruno Mars, Doowops & Hooligans (It's a little morbid, but I love it so.)
  12. "Airplanes" by B.o.B, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray (I'm not the biggest rap fan, but I seriously love this album. It's great stuff.)
  13. "Mad" by Ne-Yo, The Year of the Gentleman
  14. "Animal" by Neon Trees, Habits (You gotta love the bands with ties to Provo.)
  15. "You Already Know" by Train, Save Me San Fransisco (The whole album is phenomenal, but this was the song that really jumped out at me.)
  16. "This Too Shall Pass" by Ok Go, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky (Awesome song by an awesome band that's even awesomer live.)
  17. "Poker Face" by Lea Michele and Idina Menzel, Glee (This duet is fantastic. I love singing to it.)
  18. "Already Gone" by Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted (This song was written by Ryan Tedder. Need I say more?)
  19. "Tribute" by Tenacious D, Tenacious D (While I would never recommend this entire album [way too many f-words], this song is simply hilarious, and I love it.)
  20. "Everyday" by Buddy Holly (What would this list be without a classic of some kind?)
Now I must ask everyone to glance over this list and realize that there is not one mention of either Sherwood or the Beatles. Amazing, no? That doesn't lessen my love for either of those bands, but I thought it was something worth noting.

It's really not that exciting. Really.

Day 25: What's in your purse?

I do have a super cute purse. Next to my green and purple floral jacket, I get the most compliments on this purse. I had a random lady at Zupas come up to me and ask me where I got it because she liked it so much. It was apparently a good choice of purses.

It's really quite big, so it can potentially hold a ton of random crap. However, I don't really fill it up, which is probably a good thing.

See? It's kind of empty. There's my wallet, some lotion, my keys, and a handy notebook that I use for writing down whatever I may need to write down at the moment. I also keep my iPod, headphones, and iPod cord in that little zipper pocket, with a few lip glosses/chapsticks. Then there's my gum (I always need gum) and the pocket where my cell phone goes. And . . . that's about it. Super thrilling. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Fill In the Blanks Friday

So, this is another one of those ideas that I stole from someone else's blog (I'm really good at that). I found it at this cute blog, and I liked it.

1. One thing I MUST do before I die is go on a trip (preferably a long trip) to Europe. The UK, Germany, Italy, France . . . I want to see it all.

2. I would rather go shoe shopping than go jeans shopping any day.

3. If I could give my younger self one piece of advice it would be to run far, far, FAR away from Mike. Sure he's cute. Sure he's charming. Sure he plays a mean upright bass. But he's also a dirtbag who's going to break your heart over and over and over again. So just save yourself the trouble and get yourself the heck away from him.

4. If I won the lottery tomorrow I'd take that super awesome tour of Europe and then stick the rest in savings so I could accumulate some killer interest while still attempting to live my normal life. Then I could be a stay-at-home mom without worrying about finances and I could go on all of the vacations that I want to go on and I could buy all the books I want for my library.

5. The best surprise ever was when I got the first four Harry Potter books for Christmas. I didn't even know I wanted them, but Mom and Dad somehow did. They were some of the first books I owned myself, and they spawned a love for pretty much everything HP that persists to this very day. (As I look over at book four that's sitting right next to my laptop that I will continue reading once I finish this post.)

6. My biggest fault is that I have no motivation and no courage, which kind of go hand-in-hand. I have no motivation to push myself to do anything because I'm constantly afraid I'll fail or I'll get rejected. If I don't try in the first place, I don't have to worry about it. I'm chicken-liver, it's true.

7. My biggest strength is that I care about things. A lot. That's sometimes a weakness (or at least seen as one), but I think it's a strength. I'm very passionate. If I'm close to someone, I'm very loyal. I like to think I'd do whatever I could to help the people I love.

Random Yet Highly Entertaining Blog

So, I was looking at my friend's blog today, and she had a link to Confessions from a Mormon Bachelor Pad. I think it's quite clever. Though I must warn anyone who decides to read it that you might just be offended. Pretty much, I'm just really curious about who the heck these guys are. Because they intrigue me.

Oh, and I'm sorry for another random/super short post. I guess I just haven't thought of much else to write about lately. My life is rather uneventful at the moment. I'll let you know when things pick up.

Holy Entertaining, Batman!

This is really stupid. It shouldn't be so entertaining. But dang it, it is. Go ahead. Go to the site. I dare you.

Tag, you're it!

What is your current obsession? I often have a couple obsessions running around in my head . . . My current big ones are Sherwood (see post below) and Johnny Depp (see Public Enemies). Sherwood's just plain awesome, and I am completely in love with Johnny Depp right now. Give me a little time and it'll die a bit, but he'll always have a place in my heart.

What do you hate the most that everybody else seems to love? I heard a whole lot of good things about Mamma Mia! but never had any interest in it. Then I was forced to watch it, and all my misgivings proved right. I hate, hate that movie. Ugh.

If you could have any other name besides your own, what would it be? That's a hard one...something classy and British or old fashioned, like Penelope or Eloise.

What's for dinner? Probably something from a fast food place.

What would you eat for your last meal? I would definitely have some kalua pork, and Hawaiian mac salad. Then throw in some awesome seafood fetuccine alfredo and garlic bread and lasagna...basically it would be Hawaiian and Italian food. Weird mix, I know. Oh, and I'd definitely have to have some Red Vines.

What's the last thing you bought? Lunch at Noodles & Co. It was yummy.

What are you listening to right now? Matchbox Twenty "Leave." And next on shuffle is..."Gold" from the Once soundtrack.

What do you think of the person that tagged you? Well...Megan didn't technically tag me, I just stole it from her page. But I think she's pretty dang cool.

If you could have a house, fully paid for, and totally furnished anywhere in the world, where would it be? London, or close by London. No, I have never been to London so I don't know if I would actually like it, but a part of me thinks that I would fit very well in England. I would love to live there.

What is one of your hobbies? Just one? I have to name just one? Ummm....I would say the most dominant one recently has been watching movies. I love watching movies. All kinds of movies. I probably watch at least two a week, sometimes more. That adds up to a lot of movies.

What are your favorite smells? Good boy smell (i.e. good deodorant/cologne/aftershave/bodywash etc.), baking bread, new books, bookstores in general.

What is your favorite color? Orange. All kinds of orange. Bright orange, pumpkin orange, burnt orange...it's all good. But don't worry, I won't decorate my house in it.

What is your favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe? That's a hard question. Right now it's probably the Sherwood hoodie I bought at their concert last month, simply because I'm dying to wear it, but it's too bloody hot.

What is your dream job? A book editing position for a major publishing house, or an editing position at a magazine. Those are both equally appealing.

Describe your personal style. Vintage. And classy. When I can, at least. I like looking nice, but nice clothes are expensive, so I don't have a lot. I wish I had more money to buy nicer clothes.

What are you going to do after this? Go pick up my cousin so we can go eat and then go to the Sherwood concert. Woot!

What inspires you? I'm going to steal Megan's response and say other people. Seeing what other people do and create inspires me more than anything else.

Who was the last person you kissed? My niece, Adeline Mae, I'm pretty sure. She's frigging adorable.

What are you currently reading? I've got a few things on this list...A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, and The Undaunted by Gerald Lund. I'm totally going to finish The Undaunted first. I just started it yesterday, and I'm already completely sucked in. I love Gerald Lund.

What delighted you most today? Just thinking about seeing Sherwood live again tonight makes me happy.

By what criteria do you judge a person? Usually, I look at appearance first. I mean, it's kind of hard not to, right? And then it's usually in the tone of their voice and the expression on their face. Then it's by their personality as I get to know them better.

What is something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t done yet? Traveled outside the country. I want to go everywhere. I really do. And one day I will.

I tag: Whoever wants to do it. I don't feel like typing anyone's name. If you read this, consider yourself tagged.

The rules:
1. Answer the questions on your blog.
2. Replace one question you dislike with a question of your invention.
3. Tag eight other people

10 Things That You Probably Never Really Cared to Know

So I'm totally stealing this idea from Jonathan, but I think he stole it from someone else, so I don't really feel bad. Here are ten random-ish facts about me that you may or may not find interesting/entertaining.

#1: Sinks
I think this one stems from the fact that I worked maintenance for three and a half years during college. I absolutely HATE it when people put food down the wrong side of the sink. There's a freaking garbage disposal for a reason! Which leads me to another thing that I hate--when people put things down the disposal that can't go down. You know, like measuring spoons, measuring cups, bobby pins, that sort of thing. And rice, too. But that's because I'm usually the one who has to stick her hand down the disposal and fish the crap out. Fun stuff.

#2: Re-reading

I am a huge re-reader, and re-watcher. I know a lot of people who can be satisfied with watching a movie once, or reading a book once. I am not. If I enjoyed the book, you can pretty much bet that I have read (or will read) it more than once. I honestly can't remember how many times I've read the Harry Potter series, or The Alliance. I'm not quite sure why I do this. Maybe it's because I'm afraid I've missed something. Or maybe it's because I want to get to know the characters as fully as possible. I want the characters to become my friends. Kind of weird, I know, but it's true.

#3: Chocolate
I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate. I wonder if it's genetic, because both my grandma and my brother don't like chocolate either. Sure, I'll eat it, and there are times where I crave it, but that's usually just because I'm starving. Then I'll eat a little bit of chocolate and be good for weeks. I much prefer fruity candy, or, even better, Red Vines. Mmmm...I love me my Red Vines. I can eat a two-pound bag of Red Vines in about three days. It's ridiculous. I also don't really like cupcakes or cake. Again, I'll eat it, but ice cream (fruity ice cream--no chocolate ice cream for this girl) is way better. And so is pie. Pie is good. Fruity pie.

#4: Confidence
Apparently some people who first meet me get the impression that I'm this super confident, independent woman. I guess I am to a degree, but I think my personality makes me seem much more confident than I actually am. I have always had some pretty major self esteem issues stemming from mean kids in elementary school, and while I have improved dramatically, I'm no where near what people seem to think I am. I really am not very confident at all. I consistently feel sub-par and inferior. The only thing that I am incredibly confident in is my singing ability. I'm sure there are people who think I'm stuck up and a show off because I sing a lot in sacrament meetings and anytime a song that I know is playing. I have even had someone get mad at me for outsinging her. But singing is the one thing that I have confidence in, so I like sharing my talent. When I sing and I know that I do well, it helps boost my confidence in myself in general.

#5: Pencil shavings
I absolutely hate, hate, HATE pencil shavings. Mostly the shavings from the erasers. When I was in school, if there were any sort of pencil eraser shavings on my desk, I would have to spend five minutes making sure every last freaking shaving was off my desk before I could concentrate on the class. And anytime I ever erase anything, I have to wipe the shavings completely off my desk before continuing what I was doing. This is why I use pen most of the time.

#6: Obsessive
When I was younger, I had a really obsessive personality. I would go through these phases where I would learn anything and everything I could about whatever I was in the middle of. Probably the most notable phase was my *NSYNC phase. I spent $14 in a vending machine once in order to get every single *NSYNC sticker they had. My mother was apalled. I also went through a friendship bracelet making phase, a Beanie Baby phase, and a Newsies phase, just to name a few. This trend has faded somewhat, but I think I still do this to an extent. It mostly shows in TV shows, I think. When I get addicted to a TV show, I have to watch every single episode, which usually involves buying all the seasons available on DVD. To date, I have done this with Roswell, The Office, and Lost. After I see all the episodes my fervor dies a little bit, but it only dies once I satisfy that urge and get everything. It's kind of an expensive habit.

#7: "Hon"
You know those girls who work in clothing stores in malls? The ones who think they're amazing because they get access to the most trendy clothes? The ones who are usually somewhere in the high school to early 20s age range? The ones who insist on calling all the female customers in the store "hon"? Yeah, I hate those girls. Well, not the girls so much as the fact that they're calling me "hon." It's so condescending. I'm sure it's not meant to be, but that's usually how I use the term "hon," so that's how I see it. The only people who can call me hon are grandmas.

#8: Utah stereotypes
Being from Utah does not make me ignorant, naive, or stupid. It also doesn't automatically make me a "Utah Mormon." I don't care how true you Mormons from other states have found that to be. I have met plenty of "Utah Mormons" from other states. I hate being stereotyped. Get to know me before you judge. That is all.

#9: Will versus want
It bugs me to no end when people ask me to help them with some unpleasant chore or something by asking me if I want to help them. "Hey, do you want to help me with the dishes?" "Do you want to help me clean the room?" "Do you want to help me put this incredibly heavy load in the truck?" Of course I don't want to! Who would? I don't want to do the dishes, or clean, or do heavy lifting. Ask me instead if I will. You'll probably get a much nicer response from me.

#10: Weather
I absolutely love watching weather happen. Especially thunderstorms. One of my favorite things to do when I lived at home was watching the storm clouds roll over the foothill that Magna is butted against. I could always tell when something was coming, because those big, black storm clouds would billow over that foothill and completely envelope it, and pretty soon the clouds would be over my house and the rain would start. Gloomy summer days are my favorite. There's something about it being dark in a house in the middle of the day that is so comforting to me. I just want to curl up by a window, read a good book, and listen to the rain pounding against the house. Thunder and lightning are amazing to me. I've also always wanted to see a tornado. It would scare me to death, but I think it would be so cool! I have seen the sky turn green before, but the storm passed before a tornado formed. When I was younger, I wanted to be a meteorologist. I wanted to be a storm chaser, like in Twister. But then I realized how much science that would require and I changed my mind. Though I do still think it would be really cool.

Straight or Curly?

This weekend, I did my hair straight for the first time in a while. My hair is pretty curly naturally, so I usually stay with the curly. But my straight hair brought up some interesting conversations. One of my guy friends told me that he thought I was more attractive with straight hair. This piqued my curiosity, so I proceeded to ask my other friends what they thought. Two said that they liked me better with straight hair. Another said he liked my hair both ways. My roommate said she likes my hair curly better than straight. So I guess I'm just polling the masses here...which is better? Curly, or straight?

Here's curly. This is how my hair looks almost everyday, because it's so much easier to do. I like it because it's fun and cute.

And here's straight. I like it because it's not stiff and crunchy like my curly hair is, so it moves and I can play with it. It's classy. Plus, it is incredibly soft when it's straight. Seriously, you should feel it sometime, because it's amazing.

These are probably not the best pictures in the world, and they may not be good enough to make a really informed decision, but it's all I've got. And yes, I know that this is an incredibly random post.

Valentine's Surprise

Yes, I know Valentine's was almost a week ago, but I'm just now getting around to posting about it.

I had no plans for Valentine's Day, seeing as how I didn't have a Valentine, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of my guy friends. As an apartment, we got a nice bag of candy "anonymously." (We knew who it was from.) They also gave us all Valentine's. Mine was from my "hunk-a-lunk." Pretty funny. Then we got a cute bouquet of balloon flowers, complete with a balloon teddy bear. We still don't know who they're from.

We also got six beautiful gerber daisies, again from unknown admirers.

This was the note that was on mine. I thought it was cute.

I thought they were beautiful. And though we still don't know which kind souls gave them to us, I still want to say thank you to whoever it was. We all loved them.

Funny Story

So the other day my roommate and I went to Chevron because one of my tires was low and I needed to fill it up. There were a couple guys in my apartment, and one of them asked, "Do you need any help?" I replied, "Thanks, but I think I can handle filling up my tire." I mean really, I'm not that helpless.

When we got to the air pump, there was this big ol' red truck sitting there ahead of us. We settled down to wait for them to finish, and then we realized that the truck was idling and the driver was still in the driver's seat. We got pretty annoyed. It was 10:30 pm, and we just wanted to fill up my tire and leave. I just wanted them to get out of my way so I could go back home.

Then a white truck pulled up next to the red truck. Two guys jumped out of the white truck and a girl got out of the red truck. She looked at us sitting in my Honda and mouthed, "I don't think it's working," with this helpless little shrug and giggle. I turned to my roommate and said, "You don't think it's working or you don't know how to use it?"

Sure enough, the blond guy walked up to the pump and tested the air nozzle. We could hear the air hiss from my car. It was working just fine. I had to shove my fist in my mouth to keep from laughing, which didn't work. So she stood around with her "Oh my gosh, I'm so stupid" giggles and watched this guy fill up her tire, while my roommate and I laughed harder and harder. We even took a picture:
Sorry, it's pretty blurry, but we were trying to be discreet.

The best part was that the brunette guy kept looking at us and smiling. It looked like he was trying hard not to laugh too, and appreciated the fact that we were girls and could laugh at this girl who didn't know how to make the freaking air pump work.

It made me feel pretty dang good about myself. I mean, at least I can fill up the tires on my car. We should have offered my tire gauge--I don't think they had one. Oh well, maybe next time.
